If I could live anywhere it would be San Clemente, California! http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&gbv=2&q=del%20mar%20san%20clemente&gs_sm=c&gs_upl=20309l39667l0l42866l24l24l2l1l1l0l259l3365l0.14.7l21l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&biw=1280&bih=552&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=il San Clemente known as “Spanish City by the Sea” is a small town located at the southern part of Orange County…what you call The OC and is the mid-point between LA and San Diego…roughly 50 miles from each. The town is located on the ocean and for the most part the west side of I-5. The landscape is hilly and somewhat dessert with beautiful homes that over look the ocean. It’s an artsy community with a surf vibe. San Clemente has some of the best surf in Southern California…either at the pier or just south in San Onofre or SanO for the locals. The weather here averages 70 and doesn’t dip below mid 50’s..in fact December’s average is 64 and probably the coldest month.
SanO is home to the famed Trestles Surf Break…Trestles consists of…from north to south; Cottons Point (Cottons), Upper Trestles (Upppers), Lower Trestles (Lowers), Middle Trestles (Middles) and The Church (Church).
Lowers is consistently the best break, they hold an ASP event there each yearhttp://www.aspworldtour.com/ . Uppers isn’t as consistent, but can provide a longer ride. Cottons Point was the home of Richard Nixon and was known as The Western White House. Consistently, Trestles is some of the best surfing in Southern California…why it will always be my heaven on earth.
Other notable breaks in San Clemente are Old Mans at SanO, State, Calafia, T-Street (always a great ride), The Pier (North and South), North Beach and then just south of North Beach is 204. Just north of San Clemente is Doheny (DoHo). Doheny is great for beginning surfers and long boarders. Between SanO and San Clemente there are over 15 surf breaks…you could never get tired with that.
Another reason I love this area…the people. They are friendly….beautiful and most often happy! I’ve never met a stranger there. San Clemente also sits just north of the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton…also has some great surf breaks, if you can sneak on… but could be dangerous….Armed Marines!!!!!! If you ever visit here, you have to check out Goody’s…my home away from home bar. https://timhon.wordpress.com/2011/08/17/theres-a-piper-in-every-town/ Kyle and Lisa are great and have always made me feel at home. Oh ya…Tina…what can I say…Beautiful!!!! 🙂 Del Mar St. runs from the city’s center to the beach (pier) and is home to many boutiques, restaurants, and surf shops, something for everyone.
If for some reason I win the lottery, San Clemente will be known by my friends as The West Coast CSYC!!!!!!!http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Croghan-Street-Yacht-Club-CSYC/102164196505000
